Las Vegas - Day 3

December 31 was our third day in Las Vegas. It was the most important day in our lives and we had plans for the whole day beginning with massages in the spa in our hotel. It felt like an hour of haven! Unfortunately the spa did not have couple-room, so we were separated for an hour (it was the only time that day when we were not together).
When our masseuses were finished with us it was time for some breakfast. We did not want to leave our hotel and because it was still early in the morning. So we had limited options of restaurants. My delightful breakfast was a pizza from Pizza Hut, and Jeremy’s was a muffin and a green tea chai from Starbucks. Our next stop on the way to Canterbury Chapel was Kristina’s Salon where they made us look b-e-a-utiful! Nails, hair-cuts, hair-dos, and make-up! By then I started feeling a little nervous, even though we still had a couple of hours before the “I DO” part. Jeremy said that he was not nervous at all, but to tell you the truth I think he was :o)
We had just enough time to get back to the room, dress, and get to the chapel on time. Even though the chapel was in our hotel it took us awhile to get there because of mass of people already celebrating New Year’s.
As we were walking through the crowds feeling very anxious we did not say much to each other. We just held hands! I felt incredibly happy and nervous at the same time...We met our Reverend Richard Conrad...
Half an hour later we were Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Mullins!

Las Vegas - Days 1 & 2

Celebrating New Year is always a lot of fun! Fireworks, champagne, and big party! Jeremy and I had exactly that! However, besides New Year’s Eve we had another reason to celebrate on December 31, 2008.
We had planned to go to Las Vegas since September when I found out that if we wait until August to get married it might be too late for me to start green card application process. Waiting until August would possibly mean that I’d have to go back to Russia due to expiration of my student visa. My international student advisor suggested that we would go to the court house and get married and then still have our reception in August. We decided to do so just to be safe. It was Jeremy’s idea to keep it a secret, so we could surprise all of our friends after the fact.
We arrived to Vegas in the morning of December 29th.
When we arrived to our hotel (Excalibur) it was too early to check in, so we left our luggage there and went for a walk on the strip. From the hotel we got a map of where we needed to go to get our marriage license, which we wanted to do that day as well. After an hour of walking towards the city building we realized that we weren’t even half way through! Because Jeremy was scheduled for a tux fitting a couple of hours later we decided to take a cab (I’m glad we did because it took another 30 minutes of driving on a highway to get where we needed to go).
It was such a beautiful day, sunny and almost 60 degrees! Both of us were so excited and happy as our big day was approaching closer and closer…That day was full of new adventures and experiences, but because we were very tired we went to bed at 7 pm local time, which was 10 pm our home time! It was very good to catch up on sleep.
Our second day was not quite as exciting as the first one because I got a cold. I woke up feeling pretty miserable with a headache, sore throat, non-stop cough, and runny nose. By midmorning I got a little braver and we left our room to explore Vegas. There is SO much to see and do! Oh, and did I mention how many different restaurants there are?! For me, a person who LOVES to eat, all of our meals were such a great experience (even eating a doughnut from Krispy Kreme at our hotel was a blast :))!
Later in the evening (Tuesday, our second day there) we took a tram from our hotel to The Venetian Hotel where “Phantom of the Opera” tickets were awaiting us, which Jeremy booked a month in advance. Before seeing the show we had dinner at an amazing place called “Tao”. Sashimi of Kobe Beef with Fresh Wasabi Sauce, Lobster Wontons with Shiitake Ginger Broth, Satay of Chilean Sea Bass with Wok Roasted Asparagus, two kinds of sushi (I don’t remember the names, but I do remember they were incredible!) and lots of tasty cocktails (by then I was saying “cold-shmold”). So, let me just say – all that food was incredible!
The Phantom of the Opera is rated number 1 show in Las Vegas! Both of us absolutely agree with the rating; we have never seen such a magnificent performance! We had best seats possible – second row right in the middle, which of course made us feel like we were part of the show. When this huge chandelier started lifting from stage and moving towards us we could almost touch it! At one time there was fire on stage (as part of the show) and we could feel the heat from it! It was truly unforgettable experience!!!

To be continued…
